The book is written by hand and is full of diagrams and pictures that help understanding. The relevant physics principles are covered in an easy-to-understand manner. Mims then describes common components and how to use them. He covers passive components, semiconductors (transistors, FETs), photonic components (LEDs, phototransistors etc.) and digital and linear integrated circuits.

The book finishes with 100 example circuits with descriptions showing common uses of the components.
