Automated Hay Accumulator

The owner of a hay handling equipment - manufacturing company - Rebel Equipment, contacted us requesting our expertise in providing a suitable application to their 10 bale accumulator, which would allow more precise functionality and control across the entire system.

We suggested the TECO SG2 V3 PLR to control the solenoids of the accumulator. This PLR was programmed by us to work effectively on their accumulator by positioning bales in a unique pattern on the main table. Once the main table has all 10 bales positioned in their unique pattern, then the table lifts to dump the 10 pack on the ground.

The satisfied customer now has a more reliable, fully automatic accumulator, which also allows the operator to focus their attention on driving the tractor. The built in screen on the PLR allows the operator to keep track of the number of bales already allocated on the table of the accumulator. This way, all bales are completed and shown in the window of the PLR, even when the operator finishes baling and comes back the following day to continue on from where they finished as it records all cycles. .

Lochsport Sewer Pump Stations

Recently Gippsland Water undertook a $40 million project that to deliver reticulated sewerage services to approximately 2,700 properties in the lakeside township of Loch Sport in Victoria.

Ocean Controls was contracted to develop the Motorola Moscad RTU PLC programs that were used to control the two main Sewer Pump Stations at Progress Road and Snipe Street and provide monitoring and alarming information to the SCADA system at the Head Office. At Progress Rd the Moscad RTU was used to control the operation of 2 pairs of 22KW pumps which pump the waste water from Lochsport to Dutson Downs a distance of 30 kms. The Moscad RTU monitored the VSD's, flows, Wet Well levels and Power usage. It also controlled the deodorisation system to remove hydrogen sulphide from the wet well and a bore pump used in flushing of the system.

At Snipe St the Moscad RTU was used to control the operation of two 22KW pumps which pump the waste water to Progress Rd. The Moscad RTU monitored the VSD's, Flows, Wet Well levels and Power usage. It also controlled the deodorisation system to remove hydrogen sulphide from the wet well and a bore pump used in flushing of the system. Once or twice a week the RTU operates two remote valves and a positive displacement pump to flush the waste water network around Snipe St.

Automation of Food Packing

A customer contacted us wishing to automate his food packing machine which only performed manually. The machine has a conveyor to transport the food to the bag where it needs to be packed into. The bags are in a carousel that rotates every time a bag is full.

To make the machine work automatically we programmed a DVP-SS2 Delta PLC that controls the conveyor and carousel motors. A proximity sensor is located at the edge of the conveyor to count the number of items dropped in a bag. When the bag reached its limit the conveyor will stop and the carousel will rotate to the next empty bag. With a HMI the user is able to adjust the number of items per bag, the number of bags in the carousel, control the speed of the conveyor motor and keep track of the number of full bags a day.

Accurate Motor Rotation

A customer contacted Ocean Controls to request a stepper motor and a device that would allow the motor to rotate specific distances in a set sequence. After we programmed a DVP-SS2 Delta PLC here in the office the customer had a motor that rotates 430 degrees and stops, rotates again 110 degrees and stops and finally rotates 180 degrees and finishes a full cycle. To ensure the motor always starts at the same position we have used a proximity sensor that detects when the motor is at the home position.

Natural Gas Flow Monitoring

A customer contacted us to say 5 natural gas flow instruments they installed only had Modbus communications and he required a 4-20mA signal from each of the instruments. The cost of retrofitting a 4-20mA card was prohibitive. We programmed 5 Delta 10SX22 PLCs to act as a Modbus Master and poll the instrument and output the inlet pressure reading as a 4-20mA signal on one of the analog outputs.

The company then asked that each PLC have a Touchscreen fitted and the pressure, temperature, vibration Vx and Vz be displayed. This data was also logged to a USB memory stick and an ethernet connection on the HMI allowed a remote PC to remotely monitor all 5 units over an ethernet wireless link.
